When Alex said that "he had been informed ...", he was referring to
information that I had given him based on the decision that has been made by
PPT regarding Linux versions of third party software.  The reason we decided
to put the Linux software in the linux locker rather than in the maple,
matlab, ...  lockers was so that this would lessen the expectation on the
part of the user that this software was supported to the same degree and
extent by IS as the versions of the software that run on our supported
platforms.  If a user needs to say "add linux;maple" rather than "add
maple;maple", this puts the difference (and source) of support out front and
makes it more visible.
