Hello. Yoav wrote and Seth responded:

Yes. But I thought SIPB wanted all this stuff in their own volumes.

Not at all true. Sipb doesn't want the responsibility of maintaining
Linux and NetBSD versions of every useful program in every random
locker on Athena.  We (where "we" == sipb / linux-dev / netbsd-dev)
have been trying to do this anyway, on the theory that other people
don't want to or don't have the space. However, we think it's great
when any locker maintainers decide to create linuxbin and inbsdbin and
actually put stuff in them. Especially now that it's reached the
point where both Linux and NetBSD have somewhat usable AFS clients.

As far as /mit/graphics/linuxbin specifically:

- It would be really nice to see /mit/graphics/linuxbin. If the
graphics locker can not find the quota to keep Linux versions of
programs, then /mit/graphics/linuxbin can be a symlink to
/mit/linux/lockers/graphics, and I will put the graphics locker
maintainers on the acl. I assume that the same can be done for
NetBSD.

- If someone who maintains a program in the graphics locker does not
have access to a Linux system, Sipb will provide them a guest account
on quiche-lorraine.mit.edu, Sipb's Linux box, so that the person can
telnet in and build the program. Again, I assume the same can be done
for NetBSD.

If there are any other issues that need to be discussed, or if you
want to take us up on either offer (AFS space and guest accounts), I
guess you should reply to linux-dev or maybe sipb-staff.

Have a nice day.
-Sal.
