The current behavior of xlogin under Linux is the same as the current
Athena behavior.  Athena workstations kill and restart the X server
when you log out.  One side effect is that it makes sure that your X
clients (xterms, zwgc, etc) die when you log out.

I remember toehold.  I changed by dotfiles so that I would start X
myself -- it was faster than waiting for xlogin!  Now it kind of
doesn't matter.

OBTW: One reason to keep xlogin on the root is to prevent network
spoofing.  You have to go up to each machine to change xlogin, and
hopefully the machine will find this and correct it.
