SunOS defaults to 8192 byte NFS packets, and Athena hasn't hacked the
kernel to lower the default (like they did for BSD.) Linux 1.0 and
earlier can't handle network packets over 4096 (minus a little bit)
bytes long. 1.1 has an experimental fix for this -- but note that the
gateways fragment at a bit over 1K bytes anyhow, so you will often do
better by lowering it to 1024 even if you can handle larger numbers...
