We've asked 3Com if they have heard of this problem and we'll let you
know if we get a response. We have MITnet users that are running our
standard applications (via LW/DOS) using 3C509s and haven't had any
reported problems. We haven't done any testing of the 3C509 but have
heard "rumors" from outside MIT that it is "very strict on interrupt
timing due to its small buffer size." There isn't anything different
in how the dorm networks are configured - they are basically designed
the same way as all our Ethernets. We haven't had any reported
"timing" problems - but, then, I'm not sure I know what "timing" you
are referring to!
If you have any problems with the AT-1700s we'd be VERY interested in
hearing about them and will follow up with the manufacturer.
