I've updated the RPMs, comps file, and hdlist in the restored
copy of the installer to be installing 8.4.20 again, and tested that it
works. I've renamed system.rhlnx.rh62 to system.rhlnx.rh62.crap and
system.rhlnx.rh62.rst to system.rhlnx.rh62, so that installs from AFS
should now work.
I'm in the process of copying the installer to
charon:/u3/is-linux/redhat-6.2-new/. Once that is finished, I'll move
it into place, and then look into restoring our postinstall changes.
One thing that this whole unfortunate episode has made clear is
that failing to be fascist about revision control in the first place was
a stupid idea. I have some ideas for starting to be more formal about
making changes to the installer, which I'll send out in mail soon.
No one should touch anything on charon or in AFS related to the
Linux installer without talking to me first.
