I'm sorry you're having such trouble installing Linux-Athena.  Could
you tell me what messages you see on VT3 and VT4 after you get the NFS
failure?  You can switch to VT3 and VT3 by hitting Ctl-Alt-F3 and -F4

Generally, yes, failure to mount tends to imply a network problem.
I'd like to see what error messages you are getting, which might help
track down the problem.
