Ok, so other people have pointed out that I've very confused about which
version's been giving us trouble...
Apparently the 3c905c is the one that sometimes autodetects poorly;
in general, the NFS implementation deals poorly with network trouble,
so with cards other than the 905c, it's worth trying again to see if
you get luckier next time.
But if someone else wants to chip in with more certain facts, they should
do so...
