The problem with the ftp/http install is that we haven't built the
modified stage-2 install images, which need to be built anytime the
stage-2 installer (or anything else in 'instimage') is modified.

The real problem is that we don't have a cohesive installation source
directory, where the bootdisks, stage2 installer, etc. are all
together.  We will need just a single source-tree in order to build a
real stage-2 installer.  (Well, technically we don't, but it would be
much easier if we did).
