I must admit that the 6.2 installer is different than the 5.2
installer. However, a nice thing about adding packages during install
time is that it is MUCH easier to make sure all the dependencies are
met. Another potential reason: I may have an old machine with limited
disk space, so I want to limit the size of the installed data (hense
REMOVE packages that Athena might want installed). Same comments.
Granted, I'm a power user. I can easily go and install extra packages
on my own. I don't know how often the custom install is used. But
consider the fact that people might consider taking their Athena-ized
linux boxes home with them after they leave MIT, at which point they
wont have ready AFS access and should be able to install things
locally.
