Subject: CDROM problems
Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 13:41:32 -0400
From: root <root@localhost.localdomain>

Hi,
I just installed redhat-6.1, and now my CDROM doesn't work.
Here is my /etc/fstab:
/dev/hda1 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/hda3 /f ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdb1 /g ext2 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy ext2 noauto,owner 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
/dev/hdc /cd iso9660	ro,user,exec,noauto,unhide

and here's what happens when I try to mount /cd:
mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/hdc as a block device
       (maybe `insmod driver'?)

so I tried using modprobe (I don't really know how to use kernel
modules, just tried this after reading the manpages for insmod and
modprobe):

[root@localhost]# modprobe -t cdrom /lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/*
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/aztcd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/cdu31a.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/cm206.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/gscd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/isp16.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/mcd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/mcdx.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/optcd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/sbpcd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/sjcd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
/lib/modules/2.2.12-20/cdrom/sonycd535.o: init_module: Device or resource busy

any suggestions? I'm really not sure what type of CDROM I have.

thanks,
