It was not meant to be. I am frustrated that the documentation
I instructed a user to use was the wrong one.
I started in /afs/sipb/project/doc/ilinux, decided that was too
long to read over the phone, started looking in /mit/linux, found
out the user was looking for web-readable information, and looked
in /mit/linux/www/. The likeliest web-readable thing at
/mit/linux/www was /mit/linux/www/FAQ, and S2Q1 of the document
directed me to
/afs/sipb/project/doc/ilinux/linux-net-install/html/rh-net-install.html
(Aha!, I thought, the doc locker was the right place to look
after all.)
While giving this answer, another member in the office directed
me to www.mit.edu/sipb/docs.html, whose Linux-Athena link pointed
to a differently-formatted edition of the same information that
was in the doc locker. (Aha!, I thought, the same information in
two places. I wasn't happy that it was datestamped 1997, but at
least the two versions were in agreement with each other.)
I have the feeling that I also located a PS or a DVI document
that duplicated the information that I found above, but I was
jumping around directories enough to make my head spin and I
wouldn't be able to remember where I found it. Memory is further
confused by the fact that the user called the office again today,
and I looked in other places this time, and found the more recent
version of the installation guide.
