This is because the second-stage installer isn't setup on the server

Download the packages into /mit/linux/redhat/redhat-5.2/i386/updates
and when 'make server' is run it will DTRT.

Why not? 'make server' should DTRT, once we've finished with the
proper components files. Take a look at:

	/mit/linux/devel/redhat/5.2/install/server/i386/RedHat/base

This will happen with 'make server', when the new second-stage
installer is put on the server.
