Great.  Do you remember approximately how long it took?  Under
normal conditions, installs off small-gods to other campus machines
take about half an hour.

Almost certainly.

It probably would be...updating the boot image wouldn't be too hard,
and I don't know how soon the upcoming release will be ready.
