I needed to reinstall a Linux machine whose disk died today (it was a
1 Gb IBM disk) and decided to try the linux-net-install procedure with
the one change that, at the NFS directory selection screen, I
substituted "sipb-nfs" for "small-gods". The installation appeared to
have worked correctly, and I did check the NFS traffic on 18.181 to
make sure the data was actually not coming from small-gods. I haven't
ever tried to do an installation from small-gods, though, so I can't
comment on whether it was any different or took more or less time.
Would it be worthwhile announcing to sipb-office that if anyone
happens to call mentioning a small-gods access problem, that they
should try using sipb-nfs instead? I suppose it might be reasonable to
create a new boot.img after replacing small-gods with sipb-nfs in the
install earlymethods.c file, but whether that's worth it depends on
whether people expect that there'll continue to be 4.2 installations.
