It sounds to me like you would like linux-dev (a subset of the SIPB)
or linux-help (a lot of people who happen to be interested in
getting/giving help on linux) to request a promotional package from Xi
Graphics so that you do not have to pay for the X server. As you may
or may not have gathered, the MIT Linux user community is not a
particularly cohesive group and I would not call it a "user
group". There are no meetings, membership lists, etc.

I do not think it is likely that you will find any user group willing
to request such a promotional package for your personal use. So far as
I know, no one on linux-dev has any interest in obtaining this
promotional package. If you can not afford the commercial server, then
you will have to find some other alternative. I am sure that the
XFree86 group will eventually put out some server that supports your
graphics card --- the problem with having the newest hardware is that
(free) software doesn't always support it yet.

I hope this information is useful to you. If I have misunderstood your
intent, please let me know.

Emil
