Oh? okay. I based 32000 on remarks made on linux-help near the end of the
school year (discuss transaction 4441). I guess that if only < 100 is safe
though, you're limited to a rather small number of local users, right?

Oh, that's specific to my own setup. I symlink /etc/localusers to
/usr/local/etc/localusers because I want to be able to just tar up
/usr/local and nuke my machine to reinstall Linux-Athena at any
time. Please substitute with /etc/localusers where you see fit.

Granted. Once a hack, always a hack. My C code is much cleaner, I promise.
