XFree86 3.2 will be released a week or two. As a result,
it really needs testing to work out bugs and problems.
I've built and installed it in AFS. Please do NOT copy the binaries
out of AFS or give them to people (especially since they identify
themselves as 3.2 and this would create confusion).
Limekiller is currently running it. Because some of the shared X libs
are somewhat newer, be careful about building binaries for
installation there.
If you have a chance, test it on your machine and make
sure it works. On a RedHat machine, you'd do this by:
cd /usr
mv X11R6 X11R6-3.1.2
ln -s /afs/sipb/project/xfree86/arch/i386_linux2/X11R6 X11R6
ln -s /etc/X11/XF86Config /etc/XF86Config
After trying it, please fill out a BetaReport and report
if you have any problems. The form is available in
/afs/sipb/project/xfree86/doc/BetaReport
Send the report to me and I'll send them in (or you can just
send them in youselves). Report successes and problems
and include what type of hardware you have.
This release should add support for a bunch of new hardware,
some of which is preliminary. This includes:
Matrox Millenium
S3 ViRGE (Diamond Stealth 3D)
NVidia-1
ET-6000
Lots of Trident chipsets
If you have access to any machines running Linux with these, try it out.
