Sal,

Did you use a CD-ROM or the NFS install from small-gods?

I installed redhat 3.0.3 on squeamish-ossifrage last friday, and I
also installed Linux-Athena. Unfortunately the X server didn't work
properly (it was a w32p card and running the X server would 'hang' the
machine -- actually it just turns off all video until the video card
is reset).

I took careful notes of everything I needed to do to install it.

As for packages coming up by default; Ted and I have an idea for that.
He's first going to ask the RedHat people if they have any plans for
it, and suggest they do it. Basically, the idea is to have a magic
file which defines the installation configuration. For example, we
can define "athena-small", "athena-medium", and "athena-large" as
three configurations which get different things installed. Perhaps
development vs. client configurations, etc.

The redhat installation system is a (set of) perl script(s), so it
shouldn't be too difficult to make the changes ourselves, but it would
be nice if it came by default.

PS: I'd like to make RPMs for all the Linux-Athena packages.

PPS: We (linux-dev) need to have a meeting. I'd like to hold it at a
time when most of the linux-dev people spending the summer in MA will
be able to make it. How is next monday (one week from today) after
the SIPB meeting? If this is a problem, let me know and I'll
re-schedule. I'd also like to invite the Linux people from the AI
lab, who set up the AI-Linux installation system.
