NYS is a project developing a free (Library GPL) client-side
implementation of NIS+ (NIS version 3), YP (NIS version 2) and DNS/Hesiod
access for a number of /etc "maps" (passwd, group, shadow, hosts, services,
rpc, protocols, networks, netgroup, netmasks, ethers, bootparams, aliases,
timezone and possibly others too...). All thru a name services "switch"
   ala Solaris 2 /etc/nsswitch.conf.

But it would be great if someone experienced with Hesiod/DNS could help
out with the DNS part of the project.

Please get in touch with me if you're interrested and have the knowledge
   so things can be coordinated.

You rang? :-)

Sure, I'd love to help; although my main problem is time limitations;
I'm hacking too many other projects as it is. :-) So it might take me
a while. But hopefully it won't take that much effort to integrate
hesiod in.

However, if someone else who is working on the Linux port at Athena
(HINT, HINT, HINT to those of you on linux-dev@athena.mit.edu :-) would
like to take on this project, that would probably be better than having
me work directly on this.

The current sources of the project can be FTP'd from ftp.lysator.liu.se
in the directory pub/linux/NYS as (nys-0.*.tar.gz, where * is a moving
   target :-)

You probably need the latest 4.4.2 libraries and Gcc 2.4.5 or later to
be able to run this code without experiencing coredumps or so.
