Maple V R4 is now running on Athena Suns and SGIs. To run it, do:
add maple_v5r4; maple
at the Athena prompt. You will see error messages in the console window
like "afs: warning attempt to do byte range locking - ignored". This is
harmless but unfortunately can't be turned off.
We are transitioning maintenance of the Maple locker from Reid Pinchback
to myself (Alex Prengel, alexp@mit.edu) and the Athena Faculty Liaisons,
as Reid has moved on to other duties at MIT.
I am far less knowledgeable about Maple than Reid, and will not be of
much use in resolving problems that involve in-depth understanding of
Maple itself. I will be able to deal with configuration and installation
issues and will be able to pass on bug reports to WMS however.
We may still need to fine-tune the locker configuration and may need to
take the locker off-line briefly for a while, so please plan accordingly.
This Maple release will not become the default until at least this Summer,
by which time we expect to have the Linux version installed as well.
For the moment installation issues and bug reports can be sent to me.
