Hi Jay,

Yes, you should send this type of email to the list. I have cc'ed my
reply to it.

Many administrators around campus have found the need to lock down the
computers for which they are responsible. I am sure that as a group we
can help you define policies and show you how to implement them so that
you can minimize users' ability to modify the system without minimizing
their ability to perform their computing functions.

Win2k workstations can be locked down regardless of whether they are in
a w2k or NT domain. Why don't you send a list to the group detailing the
level of security and control you would like to have over the users'
environment? I am sure we can work together to develop a security
template for your w2k workstations.

As for w2k domain controllers--yes, until Project Pismere is finalized
w2k domain controllers are not allowed (actually, I believe it is 99%
done--just administrative buy-in and agreement and other political
intricacies need to be worked out--but don't quote me on this one--and
this applies to the hundreds of people on this list)!

I hope this information helps.

All the Best,
Bryant
