I don't believe that Win2K *Server* is authorized for use on MITnet yet -
it's a whole different architecture than NT 4.0 and you risk major turmoil
with the existing DNS, etc. Double-check with the network folks before
doing this.
An old '486 makes a perfectly acceptable NT 4.0 Domain Controller (probably
better as PDC rather than BDC) for domains of up to a couple of hundred
users. I had a Dell 486/66 with 64 MB RAM happily doing PDC duties with
very high reliability and no noticeable performance problems until the Y2K
rollover. When I turned it back on, it wouldn't boot - turns out one of
the memory modules was flaky. Otherwise, it might still be running
today...and for all I know it is, on somebody else's desk.
