Hello Partners.
At yesterday's meeting we discussed the following:
1. Network Associates Management Edition.
Per some of our experiences, we think it's a great tool for the initial
deployment of anti-virus software to a large number of machines. But the
application has some short-comings when it comes to long-term maintenance.
2. Pismere/Win2k.
The Pismere pilot has been delayed because of problems with Kerberos.
Users may appreciate a short update from someone on the Pismere team at the
next Partners meeting.
NT workstations are now shipping with Windows2000. Be careful if you are
doing any testing with Win2k server. By default, DNS and DHCP server
services are installed. Both of these cause MITNet network problems.
3. APC - Powerchute software.
The Powerchute service broadcasts within the subnet searching for other
powerchute services and tries repeatedly to gain administrator access to
any system found with the powerchute service. The is a minor nuisance that
can clog up a victim system's Security event log. I've received no word
yet from APC about this problem yet.
4. Meeting Maker
Some users are using IIS to implement the java client of Meeting Maker
6.04. The 6.04 supposedly fixes the problems that Macs had with the java
client. Be sure to keep up to date with service packs and hotfixes that
close security holes in IIS (or whichever Web server software you are
using). The new Palm conduits for MM6 seem to be working ok.
5. Microsoft Technet (Web)
Use it! It can be an invaluable tool is diagnosing a variety of problems.
