Hi gang,
Yes, we do have a campus-wide X-Win32 license, and yes,
I am the fellow to talk to about it. This license covers all of
MIT and its affiliated labs, including Woods Hole, LL, LNS, etc.
Please be aware that at this time MIT IS is not involved
with the distribution or support of this software or its licenses.
A seperate license 'key' is required for each subnet you
intend to run X-Win32 on. There is no limit on the number of users
you may give the license keys to. The only requirement is that
they be affiliated with MIT. Student use is of course included.
What you need to do is send me the class B subnet address
(or in a few rare cases, your class C subnet address), you wish
to run X-Win32 machines on and I'll arrange for license keys, which
you (or someone in the LL software support organization), may distri-
bute to interested PC users, along with instructions on how to down-
load the software and install it.
There will be no charge this year for these licenses, but
we will be requesting from your group(s) a payment next year to
cover the $5k/year renewal fee. This will be a relatively small
number, measured in hundreds of dollars, and far less than the
normal academic pricing you may have already seen. You needn't worry
about this right now though. You will be contacted next spring or
early summer.
