Good morning,
The Windows 2000 Domains, Workgroups, and Servers Delivery Team is pleased
to announce the formation of the Design Assistance & Review Team (DART),
our first community milestone.
DART will offer assistance to departments, labs, and centers (DLCs) in
making the best choices across a wide variety of managed products and
services in the Windows Server arena. As indicated in the End-of-March
Community Update (of March 31, 2003), the Discovery phase of this effort
recognized the different needs and circumstances of the DLCs across campus,
and made recommendations for various migration options into Windows
2000-based environments on MITnet. Since a number of different factors
complicate this selection and the subsequent design process, DART was
recommended as a design resource to assist customers at that stage. DART
will function as the initial entry point for DLCs who are making their
first foray into Windows 2000-based environments and as a resource for
veterans who would like to verify their decisions through consultation with
this committee.
As mentioned in that announcement, DART will be a standing volunteer
committee drawing its membership from our colleagues in the DLCs and IS. In
addition, DART will draw from the skills and expertise of teams and groups
already working with IS customers in supporting Windows products and
services. Instead of replacing or replicating the operational work of these
DLC & IS resources, DART will build upon their work.
The initial DART roster consists of:

o Thomas Coveney, IS Distributed Information Technology Resource (DITR)
o Stephen Dowdy, Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP)

o Kerem Limon, IS Delivery, as acting chair (with John Welch, IS Office
Computing Practice, as alternate)
o Christopher Meehan, Controller's Accounting Office (CAO)
o Michael Sherman, Facilities
and lending their expertise as consultants to DART are:

The DART roster will rotate over time to accommodate the demands on its
volunteer participants and to promote continued dynamism. If you are
interested in participating in the future, please maintain a close watch
over the work of DART for upcoming opportunities.
With this announcement, DART begins an internal pilot that is expected to
last several weeks. During this period, DART will be meeting with DLCs
involved in the Discovery and Delivery phases of this effort to test its
process and also generate the DLC templates which it will use as baseline
models for future customers. After this internal pilot is complete, DART
will be opening to a community pilot with a select number of DLCs. We
anticipate the community pilots to continue in parallel with the Delivery
Project and expect DART to be fully 'open for business' on or after July 1st.
