Hi everybody!

I had a couple of thoughts I wanted to pass along about
some of the events we're having this semester.

Topics in this email:
GREAT AMERICAN MEATOUT
THISTLE ISSUE 10.4 - VEGETARIANISM/ANIMAL RIGHTS ISSUE
GREATER BOSTON AREA VEGETARIAN FOOD FESTIVAL (to be held at MIT)
PUBLICITY FOR VEGETARIAN SUPPORT GROUP

GREAT AMERICAN MEATOUT - This is a grass-roots campaign to
get people to give up meat for a day. It takes place
Wednesday, March 20. At some point around the beginning of
March we will begin petitioning our friends, neighbors, co-workers,
and possibly instructors to "kick the meat habit." This could have
a potentially huge impact on the health of an individual (should s/he
choose to go vegetarian) and the overall level of health in the MIT
community. It would be great if as many people as possible could be
involved in the petitioning, and/or the planning and coordination of
the event (staffing booth that day, etc.) Email if you are interested in
getting in on the planning of this event.

THISTLE ISSUE 10.4 - VEGETARIANISM/ANIMAL RIGHTS ISSUE (March 20) - If you are
interested in writing an article for the Thistle, get back to me within
a week with a proposed topic. I will be happy to help hunt down references
or info. Oh, we wanted to do an expose' on animal experimentation at MIT.
If anyone out there on this list has any knowledge of contacts at MIT
where we might begin (e.g. you know a person who coordinates usage of
animals or care of animals, or you work in a lab with animal experimentation
or know of someone who does) then please let me know.

GREATER BOSTON AREA VEGETARIAN FOOD FESTIVAL - It's official! MIT will be hosting
the FIRST ANNUAL Vegetarian Food Festival. It will take place on May 5 in Johnson
Athletic Center. We need people to help with planning and coordination of this
event. The Vegetarian Resource Center of Cambridge and a number of off-campus
people are involved on this project, and we are meeting every Wednesday
evening at 7 p.m. in the SCC Coffeehouse. Right now we especially need a
BUSINESS MANAGER for the Food Fest. If you have some experience in
bookkeeping or accounting and would be willing to volunteer for the
event, please email me for more details. Email me if you would be
willing to help in any capacity, e.g. stuffing envelopes, making a
couple phone calls, etc.

PUBLICITY FOR VEGETARIAN SUPPORT GROUP - We are still a little-known group
at MIT, and it seems like every other week I meet a vegetarian at MIT who
has never heard of us, even though there are over 200 on our email list.
Tell your friends, co-workers, parents even about VSG and the email list.
We want to make the Vegetarian Community at MIT a strong and persuasive
voice for food choices and health education.

Good luck to everyone with the term!

Laura Dilley
VSG President
