I think that the statistics that show lower incidence of cancer in 
vegetarians are exaggerated. 
Older vegetarians are most likely to become veggie for health 
reasons.  It is in older vegetarians that differences in cancer 
statistics are most likely to show up, vegetarianism being a new 
thing.  And any older person willing to give up meat is likely to 
indulge in other health-giving activities such as regular exercise, 
not smoking, less drinking, and so on.  So how do we separate the 
effects of vegetarianism from the general effects of a healthy 
lifestyle?
