hi laura--

you may not be aware that mcdonalds fries (in the u.s.) are not vegetarian
either. although prepared in vegetable oil, they are first seasoned with
beef. this has been documented in the book *fast food nation* and
admitted by mcdonalds, who has been sued by hindus who argued that
restaurants should make clear when there is beef in something no one would
assume contained it. the amounts are small and you may not care, but
the beef is there.

in mcdonalds in india, there are no beef products in the entire restaurant
and the fries taste very different. there is also a full vegetarian menu
at the mcdonalds there, cooked in a separate kitchen area. i wouldn't
trust anything at any mcdonalds in the u.s. to be vegetarian.
