Printing EZ doc with numbered sections

I'm on a VAX3100 as a friendly tester, not using nandrew - using the standard
path ez.
I have a document with sectioning commands.
o I brought up "Table of Contents" window.
o From TOC window, chose "Enumerate"
the toc window and ez window change to have numbered sections
o "Deleted Window" - toc
o Back in the ez window, selected "Print".
Everything is fine, except when the print command is finished sending to the
printer, the numbers disappear from the ez window. The printout has numbers,
but they are no longer in the file.
What should have happened: The numbers should not go away.
