Possibly relevant: I have occasionally seen g-s-d fail to start on my
stock Ubuntu laptop, I think on the initial login. Possible not since I
upgraded to intrepid. Not sure.
>From an under-the-table perspective, I once observed that during logout
on Athena 9, g-s-d was dying properly on logout but was being restarted
by panel before panel died. It's conceivable that you're seeing a
byproduct of that race.
