Logout command restarts the machine

To end my session on a debathena cluster machine I issued the logout
command in a regular terminal.
Unlike regular athena, where you would just be logged out of your session,
debathena appeared to shut down and restart the machine.
I'm not sure if this is intended functionality. Is the only way to log
out safely from debathena by using the gui menus?
