Is anyone using an RT with an Athens drive? Can those of you who are
share your problems / lack-of-problems, and the kernel version that you
are running?
There have been reports of possible filesystem corruption with the scsi
driver if it is compiled with optimization. This report indicates that
it rapidly experiences filesystem corruption, but to date, Aeneas,
Minos, and Odie have never experienced difficulties.
I am wondering whether to disregard this third-party bug report from IBM
because the interaction with our kernels is different. Their reports
indicate a failure within a matter of a day or two; whereas, we have
been running for months without difficulty.
The report claims that the driver compiled with optimization with
hc2.1[n-y] will fail... Minos is running a version compiled with 2.1y;
Aeneas and Odie are both running versions compiled with 2.1s, and prior
to this versions compiled with 2.1n and 2.1o were run on these systems.
We are using IBM's scsi code, as distributed in their latest AOS
release, but our filesystem code is not based on their recent code; our
code also has several fixes lacking from IBM's distribution.
