The 9.4 update failed badly on one of my machines, due to the
existence of non-unique Sun package instances. Such instances
are the result of installing a Sun package, without first removing
an existing instance of the package; this creates a second instance
of the package, as evidenced by the existence of the package directory
/var/sadm/pkg/SUNWfoo.2. The machine that failed had such extra
instances due to various testing I had done for 9.3; an un-removed
package contained a kernel module that prevented the system from
booting Solaris 10.
I don't imagine there will be other machines with this problem, as
the 9.3 update explicitly blew away all package instances, but I
will work on a change to the update to protect against this case.
