In all three of the updates I did manually, I got an error about
/tmp/services.sync. Here's an excerpt from the update output on the
RT (Tisiphone):

	Parsing /tmp/services.sync
/tmp/services.sync: syntax error near line 351
	Error while reading /tmp/services.sync
Fatal error: Syntax error in conf file.

On the VS2000, the error was "near 260". I didn't catch the number on
the VS2 (it should be 260, too), but the "Fatal error:" was the same
on all three systems. I didn't get a chance to grab a
/tmp/services.sync file, but I recreated it on the VS2000 and the RT.

Synctree gave the error messages because of the comment in the "#ifdef
ops" part of the source conf file. That comment ended up in the
/tmp/services.sync file actually used by synctree. As a result of the
comment, none of the following changes took place (synctree just
aborted, since it didn't know what to do). This resulted on rexecd
and such being left on the disk.

If the above explanation isn't clear enough, I can explain it in
person.
