Assuming you have a shell prompt, can you please do
"ls /usr/vice/etc", and report if that directory has contents
(e.g. afsd)?
Can you please report which Athena version the machine was
installed at, by examining the first few lines of /etc/athena/version?
(Machines installed prior to 9.3 have the afs partition mounted on
/var/usr/vice, with a symlink from /usr/vice, and machines installed
at 9.3 have /usr/vice/cache).
Does "/sbin/mount | grep /vice" output anything? If not, can you
do "grep /vice /etc/vfstab".

This should not be a problem.
