running latest rev, my console window still displays:
Athena Workstation (RT/PC) Version 6.4R Thu Dec 21 08:54:10 EST 1989
afs: Tokens for user of AFS id 11584 have expired
at every login.

This problem is actually not a bug... you are accessing AFS to get to
"aklog" and this is the first access to AFS since your tokens expired.
However, the kernel doesn't really know you are trying to access a
program to re-establish tokens, so it is warning you that you might not
have access to your files. Of course, once the command is complete, the
message is no longer valid.
The only solution to this is to move aklog local to the workstation, and
this is unlikely to occur until AFS is supported and the final release
from Transarc comes out; making aklog local before that time may mean
that it will be incompatible with future versions of AFS (though I doubt
that interface will change).
