These problems are just a consequence of running Red Hat 9; they're not
due to anything Athena has changed. It's disappointing that the glibc
developers (particularly Ulrich Drepper) have decided to break backwards
compatibility for no obvious gain, but we can't do a lot about it.

Presumably, the rest of the world is affected, not just us; if the
vendors of Maple and Tecplot and Allegro are still providing any kind of
Linux support, they will presumably have to issue new binaries that work
on Red Hat 9 at some point.
