What do you mean by "In trying to look up help for..."? How are you
accessing the help system?
I can reproduce this by running gtop, at any rate. The fix should be
simple but hackish.

I can't reproduce this part. If I set GNOMEDIR to /usr and run gtop,
it runs gnome-help-browser for the help topics and they display just
fine.
If you're accessing the help system through gnumeric, perhaps it is
doing its own screwing around to make Nautilus launch instead of
gnome-help-browser?
