Sawfish capplets still broken under Irix

So when I try to start any of the sawfish capplets in Control Center
on wam, I get an error dialog box like this one:
xalf: Failed to launch Appearance
child exited: status 1
I can start sawfish-ui from the command line, or by using the
middle-menu button on the background, but this is completely
non-obvious and this alternative interface is also aesthetically
displeasing.
When I try to run sawfish-capplet from the command line, I get:
37695:sawfish-capplet: rld: Fatal Error: attempted access to unresolvable symbol in /usr/athena/lib/libgnorba.so.28: gettext
