I can't reproduce any of these problems (and I think other testers
would have reported them). I don't know what could have changed in
9.0 to make them start happening to you. But let's take a stab:
* What is the value of "grep dryfoo /etc/passwd"? (I'm only
concerned with the last field, which gives the shell.)
* What is the value of $SHELL in your terminal?

This sounds like a font problem. I can't reproduce it either (I don't
know how to get icons in ez, but ez doesn't look bad). After you run
ez, do "xset q" and tell me the value of "Font Path:". For me, it is:
Font Path:
unix/:7100,/usr/athena/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/andrew/X11fonts/
Also, verify that "ls /usr/andrew/X11fonts" produces a list of .pcf
files.
