Attempting to ssh to sourcery (a Solaris 7 machine running the release
AFS software, but not especially current Athena software) today, I ran
into a series of AFS messages:
/usr/openwin/bin/xauth: creating new authority file /tmp/xauth-builder-833/Xauthority
afs: Waiting for busy volume 536873339 () in cell dev.mit.edu
afs: Waiting for busy volume 536873339 () in cell dev.mit.edu
afs: Waiting for busy volume 536873339 () in cell dev.mit.edu
[...]
for a very long time. The volume (system.sun4.srvd-8.4.readonly) was
not busy. Releasing the volume didn't help. Adding a rep site and
releasing the volume didn't help either, at least not immediately.
After 66 iterations of the message, it finally gave me a prompt, and
/srvd was accessible.
