Andrew, an R5000 Indy, failed in its update to 8.4 the other day.
The problem seems to be that, after booting into our 6.5.7 miniroot,
it was unable to execute any binary out of AFS, though AFS seemed
to work fine otherwise. (The same binary would run succesfully when
copied from AFS to local disk).
A potentially critical difference between andrew and the test R5000
Indy in my office is that andrew's processor rev is 1.0, and my machine's
is 2.1. Since there are known issues with the rev 1.x R5000, I tend
to think this could be related to the problem.
[The command "hinv -t cpu" will display the processor rev.]
I have borrowed andrew for further investigation....
