It looks like we used to override the default value by getting it from
the build environment in imake.config, but that won't work any more.
(There's a new build system, and the way the value is generated has
changed).
The doc says that HOSTTYPE is obsolete, with there being new variables
OSTYPE (irix), MACHTYPE (mipseb), and VENDOR (sgi).
I guess one could argue that as long as it's still there, it should
have the same value as before...
