eolcr problems

Under 8.3, eolcr has problems while trying to send a message
to a user, leave a regular comment about a user, or leave a
private comment about a user. It lets you enter the entire
message or comment, and then when you try to send it, it just
prints "segmentation violation" and doesn't send the action
or anything. (And while I'm on the subject, it's *really*
annoying that eolcr clears the message buffer and *then*
discovers there's an error and it can't deliver the message.
I typed one message three times today before I figured out
what the problem was.)
When I switched to an 8.1 machine, everything worked correctly.
