at the request of danw, I checked this using emacs -q
I also checked this on a 8.2 box. (both machines were sgi toasters)
emacs -q, mh-folder on both 8.2 and 8.3 displays correctly (without
any coloration or highlighting)
emacs -q, mh-folder, font-lock-mode
in 8.2 this doesn't change anything, all the text was normal.
in 8.3 this highlighted what it thoguht were quotes.
I'm not sure which is correct, I assume 8.2's behavior.
