I just upgraded my SGI to Athena 8.1.
With one (known) hitch, the upgrade was successful.
I confirmed that Applixware works and that andrew messages fails.
In the process of testing the new version of patch 1489 I uncovered
something that might indicate a fault in the way we did the open
inventor upgrade for 8.1.
When I used inst to install the new patch 1489, I got the message:
Patch patchSG0000384.inventor_eoe_sw.inventor does not have base subsystem
inventor_eoe.sw.inventor version 1021572033 to 1021999990 installed
1a. Do not install patchSG0000384.inventor_eoe_sw.inventor (1021999991)
I could not say
"conflicts 1a" and make the message go away.
using the 'versions' command, I noticed that there was a patch 384 vintage 3/96
and that the inventor_eoe_sw.inventor was vintage 4/97.
I did:
remove patchSG0000384.inventor_eoe_sw.inventor
which eliminated the conflict.
I was told:
Upgrading selected patchSG0000384.inventor_eoe_sw.inventor subsystems
If we're LUCKY, all that happened was that the database was updated to
show that the patch wasn't there.
If we're unlucky, the files we copied in to upgrade the version have been
mutilated by the backing out of the patch.
Is there some script that was used to find out what files were appropriate
for the open inventor upgrade that I could run to see what my machine looks
like compared to what it SHOULD look like?
