I'm fairly certain that this is a sparc5-(athena-install)-specific bug;
if someone can debug it in time for the release, it should probably go in,
but I suspect that will mean Richard spending time on it, and if gettime
works then it no longer becomes that important.
It might be argued that it's appropriate for the release to start timed
ONLY on sparc5s, assuming my diagnosis is correct.
