Hi ya'll,
I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature of Solaris 2.3, but it
appears that /bin/csh has a 20 character limit on variable names as of
2.3. The strange thing is that I ran into this bug trying to use the
Sunsoft f77 command. The startup script for this command ran fine under
Solaris 2.1; now it tells me:
pianoforte[growl_dev/build/sun4][132] csh
athena% setenv SUNPRO_SB_EX_FILE_NAME /mit/sunsoft/sunwspro/SC2.0.1/lib/sun_source_browser.ex
setenv: Variable name too long
Did Sun really go break their own software? (I'm assuming that this
variable needs to be set for f77 and Sun's cc...) Oh, well.
