I have the following theories:
a) One of the binaries involved with printing is corrupt
b) One of the binaries involved in printing no longer works because of
the integration of other operating systems
c) The printer's configuration somehow changed
d) The cable from the machine to the printer is acting up.
For (a) and (b) I would first try printing a postscript printer and see
if it comes out. Then I would look for anythin interesting in
/usr/spool/printer/*
For (c) and (d) I would try to kill off any lpd processes, then using
kermit make sure one can talk to the printer (using the "executive"
command) and see if all is well... In fact, I would do this first....
I could probably do most of the checking if no one who is on staff has
time to.
